The PADI Whale Shark Awareness Course

Whale sharks are the largest fish in the sea, yet little is known about their activities or population size. Research and monitoring programs are helping fill these knowledge gaps. Learn about whale shark biology, behavior and distribution.

Learning about these gentle giants and hopefully passively observing them on our dives!


What You Learn

  • To introduce divers to whale shark biology, behaviour and distribution
  • Provide an overview of whale shark research and worldwide conservation status
  • Enable divers to plan, organize, and execute a safe, obervation focused whale shark dive in an open water environment
  • To emphasize the importance of whale shark monitoring activies and provide whale shark conservation opportunities




  • PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another training organization)

The Scuba Gear You Use

You use all your basic scuba gear plus equipment for recording what we see.

Your Next Adventure

As you learn about whale sharks with us, you may also want to brush up on your underwater photography skills so that you can capture images of the individuals you’re encountering. This can be acheived via the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course.
